Honoring USA Heroes

A WordPress site for a remembrance nonprofit that came to me already built. I made it easier to navigate, added landing pages for each event, and brought donations and payments online.

Client

A remembrance nonprofit

Honoring USA Heroes keeps the stories of 9/11 first responders and military heroes in front of people, and raises money to give their families a memorial portrait.

Scope

Content, navigation and events

Improved the existing content, reorganized the navigation menu and added new images. Built a landing page for each upcoming event, with extra functionality on the event pages.

The hard part

Content that changes every year

Event details, sponsors and which heroes are still unsponsored all change between seasons, so the site has to keep up without a rebuild every year.

My role

Content manager and integrator

Integrated the payment and donation systems, including one-time and recurring donations, working with the third-party providers to implement and test them. Wrote the content, updated the SEO settings and handled ongoing site updates.

Outcome

Online donations and payments, landing pages for campaigns and events including a 9/11 memorial event and a pickleball tournament, and a clearer content and navigation structure, all kept current with ongoing updates.
